| The inner circle represents the sun which is our source of life, the giver of life. Within the circle of life, we have the earth which we live in, the big island in the sky, which the turtle supports on his back, and the people of the world. Within this island, we have the four directions and the four races. To the north we have the white representing the people of the north. To the west we have red representing the red man of the west. To the east we have the yellow man which is yellow. And to the south we have the colored people which is represented by the color brown or black. |
| The trees represent each person on the world. The sweat lodge represents a place where a person can cleanse his body, soul, spirit, and mind. The butterfly represents the grace and beauty and harmony of life. And from within the sweat lodge we learn the wisdom and knowledge of our elders which the two faces on either side of the sweat lodge represent and thus we pass this wisdom and knowledge to the people which is shown on the picture by the lines coming from the faces to the trees. The seven circles within the island represent the seven stones of the sweat lodge or the seven grandfathers of the earth. |
| The circle around the sun and island represents the medicine wheel,
with its four directions, and within the four directions are the four races, and the
colors of the medicine wheel. The twelve circles within the circle represent the
twelve months of the year and the four seasons is presented by the four portions of the
circle. Thus we have a perfect balance and harmony of life and well being of body,
mind, spirit, and soul. Marc Dumas |
